Fixagut is a non-aminoglycoside, semi-synthetic non-systemic antibiotic derived from rifamycin SV. It acts by inhibiting bacterial RNA synthesis through binding to the beta-subunit of bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase. Because it is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, it is designed for local action within the gut rather than treating systemic bacterial infections.

Traveler’s diarrhea caused by non-invasive E. coli.
Reduction in risk of overt hepatic encephalopathy (HE) recurrence.
